Indiana coach Tom Crean berates Michigan assistant after emotional victory
First, there were tears, hugs and emotions spilling over onto the court, a season-long quest completed.
Then there was a heated exchange of words.
Moments following Indiana's stirring 72-71 comeback victory Sunday at the Crisler Center which gave IU the outright Big Ten title Hoosiers coach Tom Crean engaged in a dust-up with Michigan assistant Jeff Meyer. The two shook hands, exchanged words, then exchanged words again.
WRTV-6 caught video of the incident, in which Crean appears to shout "You know what you did; you helped wreck our program" towards Meyer. Current Indiana assistant Tim Buckley then pulls Crean away.
The reason for the bad blood wasn't immediately clear. Asked about it after the game, Crean said, "It's a heated game, it's a heated game. Ask him."
On the Big Ten weekly teleconference Monday morning, Crean called the on-court confrontation a "professional misunderstanding" and said he wishes he had handled the situation differently.
