http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/miami-marlins-threaten-lawsuit-against-season-ticket-holder-183450275--mlb.htmlThat's typical for team owner Jeffrey Loria, who has taken from fans at every opportunity, whether it's ballpark financing or having a fire sale of the team's best players, or years of not spending money on payroll previously....
That's different from what the Leons said. If the Marlins are telling the truth, the Leons might have a tougher case although it could be argued that the seats they paid for were not the seats they ended up getting, no matter if they move or not. We also have this statement from Jan Leon: "I have no intention of renewing," Leon says. "They're a Double A team now. It went down the toilet when they sold off all the players."
She's referring in part to the massive trade with the Blue Jays that sent Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle away. It would be funny for this to go to court and have the Marlins argue that the real reason the Leons didn't want to renew was because the Marlins sold off their best players.
Look at all those fans! Must have been nickel beer night.

(7,429 posts)Thank goodness I have the Miami Heat. I only have to be without a sport for maybe a month until Pre-Season football. I'm so sick of this owner and the whole crew ruining this team.
I have been a Marlins fan since 1993. I loved it. I loved going to the games. No more. Loria and Sampson are pigs and could care less what the fans want.

(45,984 posts)It must be the air, or something. Win the World Series, hold the fans up for a new stadium, sell the players cheap, rebuild . . . rinse, repeat.
Would anybody in Miami miss this team if it moved to New Orleans or Tallahassee or Mars? Unfortunately, they good people of Miami would still be stuck with the bill for Loira's gaudy ballpark.
But why blame Loira? He just a man of his time and place: an American capitalist who doesn't know how to make the company he owns work, enriches himself on the public teat and contributes to crashing the economy.

(78,249 posts)The old New Orleans Pelicans played out by City Park. The rainy season down there tracks baseball season pretty closely, and the rain falls in heavy enough downpours that there is often no question of a mere rain delay. (Even Jazz Fest has been rained out!) So the Pelicans came up with the "rain check", offering ticketholders admission to another game played on a dry day.

(17,086 posts)FEMA sent me home early more than once for rain days. With a 82 home game big league schedule they would have to build a roofed stadium.
