Broncos QB Zac Dysert playing too well to be put on practice squad

As training camp began, the Broncos had thoughts of trying to slide rookie quarterback Zac Dysert to their practice squad.

Not anymore. It's early, but Dysert, a seventh-round draft pick from Miami (Ohio), appears to have played his way onto the Broncos' 53-man roster as the No. 3 quarterback.

Dysert struggled during the organized team activities and minicamp, but he has demonstrated dramatic improvement through training camp. He played well in the team's scrimmage Aug. 3, then completed 3-of-3 passes in his first NFL preseason game at San Francisco to set up a Matt Prater field goal in a 10-6 victory.

"The summer (break) helped me a lot," Dysert said. "I was able to go home and get in the playbook. That really helped slow things down for me."
