Johnny Football will start the season on the bench.
Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel of No. 7 Texas A&M has been suspended for the first half of Saturday's season opener against the Rice Owls, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Wednesday afternoon.
An agreement has been reached between the NCAA and Texas A&M that a source told McMurphy closes the book on Manziel's recent issues. The NCAA had been investigating whether Manziel was paid for autographs, a potential violation of amateurism rules that could threaten his eligibility.
Texas A&M staff and players had been instructed early this week by school officials not to talk about Manziel.
However, after not discussing the matter Tuesday, coach Kevin Sumlin broke his silence about how Manziel has dealt with off-field distractions during the SEC teleconference Wednesday.

(7,429 posts)They are still investigating the U for no apparent reason. They were able to do their investigation with Manziel in less time and they still hold crap over Miami's head. Give me a break!

(29,661 posts)and how's this for just stupid..... he has to discuss his actions with teammates and A&M revising how it educates student-athletes about signing autographs. So what's he going to tell his teammates...."ah, don't get caught signing autographs" This suspension is just a joke, and I'm sure we haven't heard the last of his antics. Heisman trophy winner indeed. Ugh.....

ends with the murder charges of an Aaron Hernandez.
So I'll make him a candidate for my "Next Aaron Hernandez" award.

(16,113 posts)At least they could have argued they couldn't prove he took money for signing autographs. Now they're admitting they know he did something wrong, they just don't want to investigate any further.
