(11,443 posts)Those oaks he poisoned were 130 years old. Generations of Auburn students, alumni, and Auburn residents cherished those old trees. Sure, some threw toilet paper on those trees and others in the area after a big Saturday football win, but by Monday they were cleaned and back to normal. It was always a harmless and peaceful way to celebrate when compared to some schools or pro fans who get violent after big victories. They were relatively healthy for their age and had several years of life left in them. Those trees and the Toomers' Corner area around them was the focal point for student gatherings when my oldest uncle started school there in the early 1930s.
