Rumor has it... Charlie Strong to Texas

Texas has offered its head coaching job to Louisville coach Charlie Strong, and he is expected to accept, according to multiple media reports.

Strong, though, told Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich on Friday night he has not accepted the job, Jurich told ESPN's Brett McMurphy. Strong wants to talk to Jurich and Louisville president James Ramsey on Saturday, another source said. Jurich was in Colorado on Friday night and is expected to return to Louisville on Saturday.

A staff meeting at Louisville is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, a source told McMurphy.

(Source: ESPN):
"I think the whole thing is a bit sideways," McCombs said of the selection process during an interview with ESPN 1250 San Antonio. "I don't have any doubt that Charlie is a fine coach. I think he would make a great position coach, maybe a coordinator.

"But I don't believe (he belongs at) what should be one of the three most powerful university programs in the world right now at UT-Austin. I don't think it adds up...I think it is a kick in the face..."

McCombs, the former owner of the San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Vikings and co-founder of Clear Channel Communications...publicly lobbied last week for Texas to hire former NFL coach and ESPN analyst Jon Gruden...said...that he was stunned to learn Strong was the choice to replace Mack Brown...

TRANSLATION: "A black man should not have all power over what should be one of the most powerful university programs in the world because if he's successful, he will have all power over me. It's a black foot kicking me in my white, rich face."

37-15 Strong’s record as Louisville head coach from 2010-13. Texas was 30-21 in that span.

23-3 Strong’s record the last two seasons. Texas was 17-9 in that span.

3-1 Louisville’s bowl record under Strong, including a 33-23 victory over Florida in the Orange Bowl last season.

31 Seasons of college coaching experience for Strong, 27 as an assistant at six schools.

2 National championships won by Strong as a Florida defensive coach, in the 2006 and 2008 seasons.

From head coach to coordinator? That's makes as much sense as going from NFL coach to college coach!

Of course, this is the guy who hired Mike Tice for the Vikings, so his track record is a bit suspect.
