Dustin Johnson files $3-million lawsuit against former lawyer for theft and extortion
Golfer Dustin Johnson has filed a $3-million lawsuit against his former attorney and its law firm, claiming he was the victim of both theft and extortion.
According to HousingWire.com, Johnson claims Nathan Nat Hardwick, a close advisor to him with the Dustin Johnson Foundation, approached him this past summer asking him to loan the law firm of Morris Hardwick Schneider the money for what he called a really good investment. For his investment, Johnson would be paid back $4-million in equal monthly installments beginning on September 6th.
n late August, Hardwick was accused of misappropriating almost $30-million to pay for private jets, investment losses and gambling debts. Hardwick resigned from the Atlanta-based firm and has denied the allegations against him.
After failing to make the required monthly payments in September and October, Johnson gave Hardwick and the firm a notice of default and demanded payment. Johnsons lawsuit claims that the firm responded to his demand by threatening to disclose private and confidential information about the golfer if he elected to take them to court. The firm has vehemently denied the accusations and tells HousingWire they are confident the misplaced claims against them will fail.
