Johnny and his roommate had been out to dinner earlier in the evening with Johnnys mother, who is staying with him this week, said Erik Burkhardt, Manziels agent, in a statement. There was no entourage. Johnny and his roommate were trying to get on the apartment elevator at his home when they were accosted by a very aggressive man and his associates. It was an unfortunate situation and he immediately let (Cleveland Browns general manager)...Ray Farmer and the team know what happened.
One phrase in Farmers statement stood out: "The time of the incident is concerning to us"...as in 2:25 a.m. on the teams travel day...The Browns say they didnt consider playing Manziel on Sunday in Atlanta as Brian Hoyer struggled. That was a pure football decision...It seemed in recent weeks Manziel was embracing his role in the shadows, acknowledging that the chance to learn and escape the spotlight can be beneficial for him. The police report doesnt exactly help that process...
His mother was "staying with" him and his roommate -- does the police report mention her presence as a witness, or had they gone back out after bringing her home from their dinner date? Where was she at 2:30 on the morning of November 22, 2014?

As we previously reported, the Avon Police Dept. in Ohio responded to reports of a domestic dispute between Manziel and Crowley on Monday. When they arrived, Crowley had an abrasion on her left arm.
In the report, obtained by TMZ Sports, cops say Crowley told them Johnny had shoved her head against the glass of the car during an argument and then stated, "Mr. Manziel hit her a couple times in the car."
Crowley told cops she had 3 crown and cokes earlier in the day. Manziel, who recently completed a stint in rehab, told cops he had 2 drinks but sobered up before he got behind the wheel...
Chief Bosley: "The case is currently classified as 'Investigation Suspended.' As far as our investigation, we've talked to everyone that we could talk to. There is not enough to pursue prosecution. If additional information came across, we could then pursue it."
TMZ Sports: Why didn't cops give Manziel a field sobriety test or a breathalyzer?
Chief Bosley: We base everything on the observation of facts, or the facts that appear to present themselves. The supervising officer on the scene has been a police officer for 17, 18 years. He's a very well trained officer. He observed no probable cause to have Manziel take a breathalyzer, or a field sobriety test. We talked to witnesses, and tried to get to a conclusion. I know the supervising officer to be of impeccable character. There were 3 officers on the scene, and I stand by them completely. We go from step A, to step B, to step C. We don't jump to conclusions, regardless of who we are dealing with. We need reasonable suspicion.
TRANSLATION: "We base everything on the observation of facts -- and in this case, the facts were that Manziel is white and famous."
He's been enabled by his victim and the police -- will the NFL come through and make it a trifecta? Well, win or lose, he does qualify to be placed on my "Next Aaron Hernandez Award" list!

because their talents and potential profitability allow them to be protected and enabled by victims, the police, endorsers, and sports leagues alike, while a nation is shocked -- SHOCKED!!! -- because they didn't see it coming!
Carruth had no prior pattern of covered-up criminal acts. More recently, a former Los Angeles/Oakland Raider who was found guilty of three (of four) murders also doesn't qualify because he's been out of the NFL since 1997.
Hernandez should never have gotten within 100 yards of a pro sports career -- while an underage drinker in college, he punched a restaurant employee hard enough to damage his eardrum. Now he's serving a life sentence with an additional murder trial pending.
And lest you think I'm being sexist, I also have Hope Solo on the list.

(64,933 posts)But what did Han Solo's daughter do, not that we should be prosecuting movie character's character children unless they did something really bad. I guess if Indiana Jones' daughter did something wrong. Oh now I'm getting really confused. I'll just go read an El Supremo thread.

(44,576 posts)Manziel introduced himself as Billy. He was there into the 3am hour and when it came time to pay the bill, he asked to have it comped because he didnt bring cash and also didnt want to put it on his card. However, the sources tell us he ended up paying with his card and signing the check.
The club had Manziel and his crew placed at a VIP table close to the DJ booth. The table is located in one of the darkest areas of the club.
Manziel dined at the clubs restaurant before going to the nightclub...And yes, he ate with his wig and glasses on.
...Manziel introduced himself as "Billy" and asked to have his bill comped because he didn't bring enough cash and did not want to use his credit card.
When asked, the Browns said that they do not know whether Manziel was in Vegas Saturday night. It's unclear whether he missed a required training session before Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Now former Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said Sunday he's not sure whether quarterback Johnny Manziel was in Las Vegas Saturday night...If it turns out Manziel was in Vegas, Pettine said he would find it 'disappointing.' Despite his off-the-field problems, Pettine called him a "work in progress."
Manziel...missed a mandatory team meeting Sunday...He was spotted partying in Las Vegas Saturday night, where he reportedly wore a blond wig, fake mustache, and glasses, and used the alias "Billy."
James said he was concerned for Manziel "individually...I don't know all the details...(I)t's just a distraction, for not only himself, but for everyone that's around him, including family...He'll figure it out at some point, we all hope."
Very clever of him to balk at using his credit card -- it would have given away not only his true identity but that fact that he was gambling. Well, Johnny now has the advantages of an off-season and a new coach. Let's see if he can make the best of them.
