Peyton Manning, still trying to get healthy after missing the 2011 season because of neck surgery, described the Indianapolis Colts' facilities as "not a real good environment" at the moment and said he has "no idea" if he'll be with the team next season.
In an exclusive interview with The Indianapolis Star, Manning said owner Jim Irsay will make the final call on whether the team picks up his $28 million bonus in early March or decides to cut him loose.
He also said the firing of Jim Caldwell and resulting upheaval of the staff has affected him as he attempts to return to the field next season.
"I'm not in a very good place for healing, let's say that," he told the newspaper. "It's not a real good environment down there right now, to say the least. Everybody's walking around on eggshells. I don't recognize our building right now. There's such complete and total change."

The Colts don't deserve a player of Mannings quality. Maybe he can join his brother in NY. Peyton can be the backup.

(44,576 posts)But there's no guarantee the rehab will be successful, and even if it is, there's no guarantee he'll return to form. Indy can't afford to wait on him for another season either financially or logistically. It's a terrible situation, of course, and Peyton has been one of the least scandalous guys in the league. But if he can't play anymore, he can't play anymore.

(13,178 posts)You're absolutely right. However, because he's been good in the past, the Colts must bend over backwards and make him more important than the future of the team, like Green Bay did for about five years.
