Jason Holmes to debut for St Kilda, making him first born-and-raised US AFL player.

August 20 2015

The first time Jason Holmes was approached about an AFL career, the former US college basketballer noted the date.

"I had no clue what it was," he said.

"I think I'd seen it in Funny People and on ESPN2. But I hadn't realised what it was at the time.

"I literally got the call on April 1, so I thought it was a joke."

But the emails and messages kept coming, so Holmes figured he had better pay more serious attention.

Less than three years after switching to Australian Rules, the 25-year-old St Kilda ruckman will make his AFL debut on Saturday night against Geelong.

Holmes will be the first American born-and-raised player to appear in the AFL.

My analysis:
He played an awesome game..did what he should do as a ruckman. His team, a 30 point underdog, managed a play to a draw and may have kept their opponent out of a chance to make the Season's end play-offs.

He busted a long run last week and, as one might expect, gave a good show returning kicks.

Jason is playing Australian Rules football. It is the sport where a mark (a completed catch) is sometimes achieved by moving atop the shoulders of another player on the field.

The AFL Grand Final...their Super Bowl...Will be this October 3rd...our late night Oct. 2nd here in the U.S. and is ALWAYS televised on one of the Sport's networks here in N. America.

I am a Hawthorn HAWKS fan...and they could go to the finals this year and would be going for a 3-peat win. This would be a very big deal in a very action packed, free flowing, hard fought sport.
