(31,177 posts)Gabbert looks more comfortable behind center and in the pocket than Kapernick. His reads seem quicker -- he appeared to find the open receiver on more occasion. Now, maybe it's because Atlanta didn't have time to adequately prepare for him -- there's still the issue of the right side o-line that can't pass block consistently.
It helped the 49ers that head coach Dan Quinn had a major brain fart in the 4th quarter. He decided to go for a field goal rather than a touchdown with a fourth-and-goal from the 49ers' 1-yard line. There were three minutes left in the game and the Falcons trailed by four. That was a gift. Atlanta never got the ball back and lost by one point.

(31,177 posts)provided he's off the roster by April 1. I believe the trading deadline has already ended.
Maybe he'll find a second life as starter, but I think his career is as a back-up.
