He'll be released at the end of the season. Won't cost the 49ers anything, Auggie Nov 2015 #4
It's pretty rare for a QB to make a successful comeback with the same team. bluedigger Nov 2015 #5

Gabbert looks more comfortable behind center and in the pocket than Kapernick. His reads seem quicker -- he appeared to find the open receiver on more occasion. Now, maybe it's because Atlanta didn't have time to adequately prepare for him -- there's still the issue of the right side o-line that can't pass block consistently.

It helped the 49ers that head coach Dan Quinn had a major brain fart in the 4th quarter. He decided to go for a field goal rather than a touchdown with a fourth-and-goal from the 49ers' 1-yard line. There were three minutes left in the game and the Falcons trailed by four. That was a gift. Atlanta never got the ball back and lost by one point.

and trade him. He showed promise & might be able to play for someone else if they let him run more. Buffalo, Oakland, Houston ...

provided he's off the roster by April 1. I believe the trading deadline has already ended.

Maybe he'll find a second life as starter, but I think his career is as a back-up.

Other than injury recoveries, I can't think of any, really.
