Who's evil now? Who's trying to buy a championship now?

(16,113 posts)that are trying to buy a championship. I think this is way too long a deal for Price (7 years for a 30 year old pitcher!) but it's certainaly not out of character for the Red Sox to overpay for talent. See Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez if you don't believe me. It rarely works out well.

(35,443 posts)it's bad for baseball. Small market teams can't compete. This is evil...blah..blah...blah.
Red Sox sign a big name Free Agent, and it's crickets about impact on competitive balance.

(16,113 posts)stupid, maybe, but not evil, and if I recall correctly, you were recently arguing that having more money has no effect on competitive balance.
Were you just wondering where all the people who think money makes a difference are?

(16,113 posts)Contreras. The Sox offered a ton of money (or what would be considered so, at the time). The Yankees offered more.
The Evil Empire extends its tentacles even into Latin America, That's the quote. The Yankees don't seem to mind, they play the Imperial March from Star Wars during their pre-game warm-ups (not continuously, but it's in the mix of music they play)
Were you expecting Luccino to post here, since he's the one you have an issue with?
By the way, how did that Contreras deal work out for the Yankees? About as well as Matsuzaka did for the Sox.

(78,249 posts)but the Yankee-haters embrace them because they're the Yankees' rival. And no one yells and screams about the Dodgers, who have now surpassed them both in the $$$ department, perhaps because their efforts to be a championship have so far been spectacularly unsuccessful.
