Wednesday's Johnny Manziel news (two stories)

Criminal charges in Manziel case delayed after detective put on patrol shift

The Dallas detective investigating whether Johnny Manziel hit, kidnapped and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend is currently working a two-week rotation in patrol, delaying filing possible criminal charges in the case.

Police officials said last week that investigators expected to determine whether they will charge Manziel with a crime by Friday. But the investigation has been delayed because the lead detective on the case is patrolling the streets as part of a community policing program recently revived by Dallas police Chief David Brown.

Brown revived the two-week patrol program in an effort to reduce slow response times. But in a message sent out to the department this week, he said officers can volunteer to do their two-week assignment in communications — technically another desk job.

Brown wrote that the officers will follow up by phone with low priority callers while patrol officers deal with the emergencies and urgent 911 calls.

Johnny Manziel went on booze-filled romp after alleged assault

The week after Johnny Manziel allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend apparently was one of salacious partying for the embattled Cleveland Browns quarterback, according to a new report.

The Daily Mail reported Wednesday that a week after ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley accused him of kidnapping her and striking her so hard she lost hearing in her left ear, Manziel and four friends went to the Mexican party hub Cabo San Lucas during the first week of February for a booze- and sex-filled romp that covered six days at two different resort properties.

Citing sources close to the former Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M, the Daily Mail reported that Manziel and his all-male entourage threw "wild parties at the luxury villa, inviting as many as 15 girls (at) a time to join them."

The paper cited witnesses who said "the five-bedroom property was littered with bikini-clad girls hanging by the pool throughout the week.

'The guys had so many condoms that they were blowing them up into balloons and throwing them around the villa for fun," the Daily Mail's source said.

'They would pick girls up from the beach and invite them back to the villa. They had one party and there was 15 girls there."

A Dallas County grand jury will decide whether Johnny Manziel faces domestic violence charges, authorities said Thursday.

Dallas police detectives wrapped up their three-week investigation into whether the former Texas A&M star hit, kidnapped and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, without charging him.

“Today, a Class A misdemeanor assault/domestic violence case has been referred to the Dallas County District Attorney’s office for presentation to a grand jury,” Dallas police officials said Thursday in a written statement.

They said they will not release any further information on the case.

It seems that Johnny Manziel is doing what a number of athletes and young men his age do. There is a chance that others guys have done far worse than Manziel. It is not uncommon for young athletes to party hard and run through women. The only difference between Manziel and other athletes is that some of the other athletes misbehave behind closed doors. In addition, there was no social media in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. From what I have heard the men of those eras were just as wild, if not wilder, than Manziel. Some other athletes also make sure they win in between their wild behavior. A number of athletes have multiple kids with multiple women. The only way you get multiple kids with multiple women is to party hard and run through women. There are also a number of male athletes who have beaten their girlfriends and wives.

However, I hope Johnny Manziel gets his act together. It would be very sad for him to end up broke and kicked out of the NFL when he had a chance to have at least a decent NFL career and make a large amount of money. Maybe it is hard to have that much money, fame, and adulation/butt kissers/nut-huggers at such a young. Maybe he foolishly allowed all the money and fame go to his head and now he thinks none of it can really be taken away from him.
