When you take a brutal loss in the NFL, you can rage. You can sulk. You can sling equipment or destroy furniture. You can be a smartass, or you can be contemplative. But the one thing you absolutely cannot do is laugh, a lesson San Diego Chargers kicker Josh Lambo learned after Sundays loss to the Oakland Raiders.
Down 34-31, Lambo was set up to kick a potential tying field goal, but a botched snap killed any chance of that. Immediately after the game, as the Chargers writhed in various states of postgame agony, CBS cameras caught Lambo merrily chatting it up with his counterpart, Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski. The joy didnt sit well with several of his teammates and coaches, and head coach Mike McCoy addressed the issue on Monday.
Everybody on your team is looking at you and looking at everything you do at all times, McCoy told the San Diego Union-Tribune. When a teammate sees you in a situation like this and you get caught, laughing it up, people take it differently. Everybody is different. Some players will look at it and say, Its not a big deal. Other players, it pisses you off. You were involved in a critical play in the game, and it wasnt executed properly, and we lost. Just understand what it means....
Look, were sure Lambo is indeed dedicated to the cause and was not laughing at his teams misfortune. But given the Chargers are now 1-4 and could easily be 4-1 or better, maybe Lambo was just laughing to keep from crying.
