DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The start of the Daytona 500 has been pushed back to 7 p.m. ET Monday by NASCAR officials due to ongoing rain across Central Florida.

After Sunday's rainout, the start had originally been scheduled for noon Monday.

"I can't guarantee you we will start at 7 o'clock, but the chance of starting at 7 o'clock is a whole lot better than at noon," NASCAR president Mike Helton said in a 10:15 a.m. press conference.

Fox TV is "on board to stay with us," Helton said, and will air the race live this evening if weather permits. If the rain continues, "Tuesday is an option" for yet another rescheduling, Helton said.

I say they just take the Baseball route and do a double-header when they return to Dayton in July.

so there won't be that big of a loss. Heck, there may even be a BUMP in ratings since it is now on Monday night.

heh, though as I said above, I'd be all for NASCAR taking a page from MLB and scheduling a day-night double header with their July Race. The Coke 400 at 1pm, Daytona 500 at 7pm. Or just call it the Daytona 900 and make it a 360 lap race.
