(65,168 posts)The 3rd biggest market and the largest golf market in the regions of the country that have real winter. Chicagoland is golf nuts, and they pulled the Western Open, made it defunct, (and it used to be the 4th of July tournament), and then gave the area the BMW every 3 years.
That tournament used to be the last tune up before the British Open. EVERYBODY showed up at that event. Started going to it in the 70s. Nicklaus, Trevino, Player, Watson, Weiskopf, Norman, all the way to the Woods, Mickelson, Duval era.
But, they just have to go to exclusive country club courses in the NY area for majors. While the third largest market gets an event every 3 years.
Stupid.
