High school football - 15 players show up. Playing 5 games.

Just got a text from a friend. High school football in Tidewater/Hampton Roads (hot bed of football) had 15 people show up for the team. School of about 800. They are only going to play 5 games this season.

Oddly due to Virginia football playoff districts rules this team made the playoffs the last two years with 3-7 Records.

Just curious. My high school (I’m old) had 400 students. Always a full JV and Varsity roster. We sucked, but everyone who wanted to play, did. It was, and still is, a low-income area. Boys wore flannel shirts and work boots to practice. It was customary attire and they couldn’t afford more until the first game or two. We all paid $1 to watch and then they ordered practice t-shirts. We looked like The Badnews Bears, I’m sure, but we had fun. Bonfires and pep rallies and wild cheers if we scored at all. BTW, same school lost 48-3 yesterday, so I guess it’s still just as bad. I just hope they’re still having fun!

My friend's son stopped playing football I think in the 9th grade switching to soccer.
It may have to do with parents not wanting their kid to play football or the kids just not being interested.
