I saw something disturbing on an NBA playoff game

I don't remember which game it was.

When a white player made a three-point shot, a small group of white young men in the stands were very excitedly cheering and waving the white power symbol with their hands. The TV zoomed in on them and then stayed on them for five or ten seconds while they continued flashing the white power sign.

I saw the same thing a second time recently but don't remember for sure if it was an NBA game.

I couldn't believe that the TV zoomed in on those guys and I especially couldn't believe that someone in the control room didn't immediately say "Get that shit off our network. Change cameras."

Has anyone else seen that? I haven't seen or heard any discussion of it, either here on DU or elsewhere.

That is a well known hand gesture indicating a player just made a shot that was at or behind the 3 point line, hence the 3 fingers, meaning the player scored 3 points. This is a long used gesture and is used by players and fans alike. It is NOT a white power symbol when used in this context.

No, I don't know much about basketball but I have been watching Warriors games for several years. I haven't seen that before, even with the Splash Brothers shooting lots of threes to celebrate. Anyway, I'm glad to know that society hasn't descended as much as I feared.

There was a big ol discussion about this very thing. Naturally, there were some people who didn't want to believe it was completely devoid of white supremacy, but after a bunch of DU'ers posted innumerable pics of the multitude of players who've used it in the last year alone, the matter was settled, haha.I live in NC, the center of the college basketball universe, so I'm very familiar wirh it.

That is the officials' signal that a show taken was a legit 3. If the shot goes in, the other hand is raised the same way.
Actually watch Steph! He does it more often than any of the sharpshooters and we're sure he ain't doing the WP sign!
