8th inning. S.F. was losing to Cincy in a 12-4 blowout; bullpen was spent. In 10 pitches the Panda hit the first batter, got the second on an outfield fly, then got the third -- and baserunner -- on a double-play grounder.
Baseball fans gotta love stuff like this. I know I do.

His stick goes hot and cold, but he's become one of the better clutch-hitters on the Giants team.
His sweetheart deal ends this year, and his protectorate, Bruce Bochy, is retiring at the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see what offers 'Free Agent' Sandaval will be receiving.

(31,173 posts)Plus there are other intangibles. I was reading the other day that Sandoval and Gregor Blanco corrected Brandon Crawford's swing last May (2018) that resulted in a .400 improvement. You're not going to get that insight from a prospect, nor the balls to even suggest such a thing. So there's that, the switch-hitter option off the bench, and decent defense at first and third.
I don't think they'd get a whole lot for him. Maybe a prospect they could assign to the minors to make room for a Heliot Ramos-type call up.

And this year, the Tribe has our very own ace mopper -upper Kevin Plawecki!

(6,115 posts)I just saw that stat posted a few minutes ago. Really unusual if one plays third base.

(36,440 posts)His pitching is becoming passé.
Boche WILL NOT put him in the outfield (he saw him screw up horribly in Japan a few years ago), but catching is still on his bucket list.

(31,173 posts)According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Sandoval became only the second player since 1900 to throw a scoreless outing, hit a home run and steal a base in the same game, joining fellow Giant Christy Mathewson, who accomplished the feat on May 23, 1905.
