Panthers QB Newton (foot) out vs. Cardinals, Allen to start
In a move that was becoming increasingly clear to everyone closely watching the Carolina Panthers, quarterback Cam Newton will miss Week 3’s game Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, it was announced Friday.
Newton has missed all of Carolina’s practices this week as he deals with a foot injury that was aggravated in last Thursday's 20-14 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Newton has had a slow start to the season, leading to some speculation that he has been playing through ailments. He also underwent surgery this offseason to his right, throwing shoulder.
In two games this year, Newton has completed 56.2% of his passes for 572 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Newton has also notably rushed the ball less often in 2019, with only five attempts for minus-2 yards.
