Two days after parting with his third team in six months, Antonio Brown declared himself to be finished with the NFL in a Sunday morning tweet, while calling out New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
The talented wide receiver was released by the Patriots on Friday amid an investigation into rape and sexual assault accusations, but found a way to make waves ahead of the NFLs Week 3 Sunday game.
In addition to his announcement, Brown fired off scorched-earth tweets, implying there was a double standard in how he was treated compared to Kraft, who has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of soliciting a prostitute last winter, and others who have been accused of sexual assault, including his former quarterback in Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger, and Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe.
Will not be playing in the @NFL anymore, he tweeted, these owners can cancel deals do whatever they want at anytime we will see if the @NFLPA hold them accountable sad they can just void guarantees anytime going on 40m 2 months will see if they pay up !

(53,743 posts)It's never mentioned anymore. You'd think some reporter would've mentioned the Patriot's owner's own sexual case when Brown was signed by the team but there was nary a peep.

(64,869 posts)Conflating sexual assault (probable rape) with solicitation is pretty thin.
Especially coming from someone accused of the former.
Not sure I could ever fully agree with you on this, but the messenger greatly ruins any possible message.

a sexual charge (Brown was not, btw). It's not a reflection of privilege to you that the owner's own sexual case wasn't mentioned with the Brown story since it also involved a sexual matter?
I never said the charges were the same. It's rich guy privilege.

(53,743 posts)completely squashed as if it didn't happen while every unproven allegation against Brown is splashed all over the news, and the Brown case is civil, not criminal as Kraft's was.
Hardly a reach as it makes one wonder also if the fact that Brown is African American has anything to do with the it.

(182,632 posts)Another story ESPN says that the Pats will probably lose his grievance and will have to pay him the $9M.

However, other NFL sources strongly believe that the Patriots eventually will owe Brown the $9 million. Those sources insist that once a signing bonus is earned, it's earned, and there's no turning back.
"They are going to lose," one NFL executive predicted about the Patriots' plight, referring to the looming financial battle between Brown and New England.

(36,387 posts)I believe the Patriots can demonstrate Antonio Brown and his attorney knew about the pending lawsuit(s) and neglected to disclose it, voiding the contract.
Either way, if the Patriots go on to win the Super Bowl, Antonio Brown will be awarded a Super Bowl ring for his single appearance in a game.

(182,632 posts)Not arguing with you but the CBA will be the first determinant

(182,632 posts)I was curious about that. I thought the guarantee was just that. I guess he still had to hit some sort of date (like opening weekend). News to me. The NFLPA gave up so much in the latest CBA this wouldn't surprise me.

(2,014 posts)Why does this seem like the utterly stereotypical response of an entitled male sex abuser? More allegations of sexual misconduct, but no - hes the victim here.
