Amazing. Looks like Alex Smith is going to play football again.

Washington QB Alex Smith cleared for football activity by team

Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith has been cleared for football activity and activated off the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Sunday, capping a remarkable recovery from a leg injury that nearly cost him his life

Smith, 36, broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg in a November 2018 game against Houston. Because of an infection, Smith required 17 surgeries, and doctors not only worried about the possibility of his leg being amputated but also feared for his life. But Smith vowed to return, and while team officials acknowledged the massive odds he faced, they always returned to one comment: "If anyone can do it, Alex can."

Smith was featured in an ESPN documentary detailing his journey

Here is an extensive article on what exactly happened with his leg. It gets pretty gruesome

But what happened later was devastating. Basically his own blood, once it was exposed to oxygen, became infected and started eating into everything but the bone. At one point all that was left from knee to ankle was the bone. I read the second link that I included some months ago but that was the gist of it.

Even in the midst of it he said that was his goal. He’s got a lot of guaranteed money so it’s not like that is a concern. I don’t know.

is still beneficial to his ultimate recovery for the rest of his life.

No, I don't think he should risk ever getting tackled again. He has nothing to prove to us. He might not be one of the greatest QBs ever, but he has always been a very good QB and a great professional. I feel he helped contribute to Mahomes early success, and he would have been a good QB for Washington.

He needs to move into coaching.

That will be there regardless of what he does. I agree with you. Not worth it. He’s lucky it wasn’t amputated (that recovery article is ...ugh).

He’s said from day one and in the worst of it that he wanted to play again.

I'm not so sure he should play but only he can make that choice. I always admired him and more so now after recuperating from such a gruesome injury. As others have said, maybe its time to begin a new coaching career.
