https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30613088/washington-football-team-releases-qb-dwayne-haskins-sources-say"This afternoon I met with Dwayne and informed him that we would be releasing him. I told him that I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways. We want to thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two seasons and wish him well moving forward," Washington coach Ron Rivera said in a statement.
Haskins, whom Washington selected with the No. 15 pick in the 2019 draft, was benched in the fourth quarter Sunday after throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble in a 20-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
He started for a second straight week in place of the injured Alex Smith despite being fined $40,000 and losing his role as a captain for violating COVID-19 protocols when he was photographed last week without a mask while attending his girlfriend's birthday party.
Earlier Monday, Rivera said that Taylor Heinicke, who replaced Haskins in Sunday's game, would start in Sunday night's season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles if Smith remains sidelined with a right calf injury.

(15,012 posts)Shows how corrosive to team dynamics his continued presence was thought to be, I guess.

(17,331 posts)I'm sure he'll mature as a person, but whether he can mature as a QB and find a fit with another team is really hard to say.

(70,589 posts)He could hit a gnat's butt @ 80 yards and in a wind storm too. He has the talent and I
hope he gets another chance but they call the NFL the "Not For Long" for a reason and
if he wasn't getting it done then, "Its a business."

(182,904 posts)I read an article recently about how his being a first round draft pick moves OSU to the top of the recruiting list for talent. As soon as you have one 1st rounder all the talent wants to come to you.
Botany
(70,589 posts)And yes OSU is now like Alabama & Clemson they are getting the best of the best
across the board in recruiting ... it is almost unfair. Haskins was so good that he
kept Joe Burrow on the bench before he transferred to LSU.

(12,265 posts)A large percentage of NFL players are totally broke within 5 years of the time they are done. For this young man he may be done now. Pretty sad, he was a great college QB, but his ego got in the way of his success.

Hopefully this young man catches on with another Club, but, doubt it will happen.

(5,334 posts)Playing behind huge O line at a school and conference where the run game is king. Playing much weaker opponents for most of their games, the system and environment makes average QBs look great. They are not prepared for the challenges of the NFL especially when a poor NFL team picks them high in the draft.

(64,933 posts)I was never overly impressed by his talent at Ohio State, though he did have some really good moments. I think he could have gone as a third or fourth round pick, it would have allowed him to develop without the pressure of starting his first year.
But then again, Danny boy does manage to mangle quarterbacks. (RG III).
