Recreational golfers can get too worried about the rules.
But, if I have a rock in front of my ball in the bunker, I move it. It doesn't affect my partners' game, and they know I don't get my clubs for free.
But, a pro doing it creates an advantage that affects everyone else in the field.
I'm a proponent for relaxing the rules some if it speeds up play and makes it fun.
In competition, there's no relaxing of rules.
I played competitive golf on and off from 1971 to 2008. (Maybe 20 of those years?)
I would never clean or change out a ball in the middle of a hole. And I wasn't playing for a million & a half dollar first prize.
He's a recurring line stepper. He's very unpopular with the other pros.
