A couple of cars I got to see while attending a wedding.
Rental was a Opel Corsa. I think it has the bottom end trim and engine. Pretty smooth ride for a small car, just over geared for economy. Biggest issue was reflections made it hard to read the dash controls. And the small screen for radio controls was LCD and not readable unless you shaded the screen. All other controls seemed pretty standard and the front seats were good with plenty of room.
Next is the Toyota GT86. Made with Subaru boxer 2 L engine. I think the US got it as the Subaru BRT. This one is a pre 2015 version.
The star of the show was the Barkas B100. This jewel was providing tailgate duties before the wedding. East German build, 1979 for this one, made in Chemnitz. This has a One liter 3 cylinder 2 stroke. Engine between the front and second row of seats. Might do 60 mph. The round chrome disc in front is the gas filler cap. Don't hit anything head on. Rear door is one piece and swings to the side.

(5,755 posts)I had to look up what is was. Sounds like it is a fun car. Although there was some critics who thought the ride was a little harsh. I drove a FJ40 for 25 years. That is a harsh ride.

(15,274 posts)Sound like a post ww2 hold over.. Small displacement for fuel savings and 2 stroke for power..
Mix it your self I guess??
I read somewhere Honda is coming out with a 3 cylinder turbo motorcycle engine..Should be interesting.
Toyota has a 3 cylinder Yaris in 'Urp. Again a turbo with 1.6 liter and 200+ hp.. Yowie zowie batman that's a lot of hp/cyl..

Who did you rent from and what are the rates these days? The reason I ask is because I rented for occasional travel when I worked in DC.
Btw, love that old van!

(5,755 posts)Last weekend was Thrifty(Hertz). I'm in Munich and use the carrentals.com site. Relatively easy to navigate.
The first weekend cars I was looking for, economy, were 30 per day. Last weekend they were all over 50. A holiday weekend, Whit Montag.... I also get the extra insurance because we don't own a car.
