Giants rally to tie but lose to White Sox in 10th

A second baseman who would have been a nifty acquisition at the trade deadline buried the Giants on Tuesday night.

Gordon Beckham made the biggest play and got the biggest hit in the White Sox's 3-2 victory in 10 innings, which added to the Giants' home woes - 7-22 at China Basin since June 9 - and extended their losing streak to five games.

The Giants, who tried to land an experienced second baseman to increase their playoff chances, reportedly liked Beckham. They stuck with their nucleus, and Beckham stuck with the White Sox.

His two-out single in the 10th scored the deciding run after his defensive play in the ninth might have stolen a victory from the Giants. With the bases loaded, no outs and the White Sox up 2-0, he dived for Joe Panik's grounder up the middle and, in one fluid motion, flipped the ball with his glove to shortstop Alexei Ramirez to begin a double play.

Giants are 62/57 six games behind the first place Dodgers. One certainly has to ask why the wheels have fallen off the wagon??
