Blood in the Water - Lance Armstrong Sued Over Book
In a fitting follow-up to Shark Week, USA Today yesterday reported on developments in yet another lawsuit against Lance Armstrong based on the premise that he deceived consumers in order to sell his books, It's Not About the Bike, and Every Second Counts. The argument goes that, had Lance not lied about his use of performance enhancing drugs, no one would have purchased his books.
From the article:
"He cheated on bike races to sell books, and he published the books in order to cover up the cheating," plaintiffs attorney Kevin Roddy told England. "We think they're interwined."
In short, the people who bought Lance's books want their money back.
Armstrong's attorneys say that Armstrong is shielded under the First Amendment; the plaintiffs' attorneys claim that because the speech is commercial, Armstrong receives no such protection.
