And a zillion juncos, breeding plumage gold finches and residual common redpolls.
They all did battle at the feeder.
My Boy Squirrel did acrobatics jumping on the feeder from the rail of deck.
A song sparrow, chickadees, a hairy woodpecker, white breasted nuthatch, and a pair of chipping sparrows as well.
And I saw wee bits of crocuses around my sun porch.
Still got 2 feet of snow on the garden though

(41,758 posts)We have a south wind ahead of a warm front coming through and most of the snow melted this week.
All those pent-up migrants must be taking advantage of all that.

(17,930 posts)Wow! We lost the last of our ice sheet about a week ago. Thought we'd never melt. It was like the glaciers were making a come back.

What an emotional relief after reading about Washington Jailbirds all day......

(19,201 posts)the ubiquitous Starlings and Grackles yet? These are what I refer to as the "republican" birds at my feeders. They drive the nice birds away and take everything that isn't nailed down. Starlings will kill other birds just for the fun of it. They're a plague upon the land. Truly.
