Deal reached for new Bills stadium

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – It’s a done deal. The Bills are getting a new stadium.

On Monday, a source tells News 4 that NFL owners voted to approve a $200 million loan for a new Buffalo Bills stadium. It happened during the NFL Annual Meeting in Florida.

There had been speculation that the cost to taxpayers could be even more massive than it turned out to be, at roughly $1 billion, but Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said “it’s not an accurate number.”

According to an anonymous source who spoke with The Associated Press, $850 million in state and county tax money was the actual expectation — a record-breaking ask for taxpayer contributions to an NFL stadium.

I don't know what the hell they're thinking, but to build a new stadium without a stinking roof in Buffalo, New York is ridiculous.

Brand new stadiums in other cities get to hold Super Bowls, but that will never happen in an open air stadium in Buffalo.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

With a retractable roof, the potential of hosting a Super Bowl, the NFL Draft, as well as hosting other sporting events (i.e. soccer, neutral site MLB games between Blue Jays and the NY teams) become possibilities.

In their division, the open air stadium is really an advantage only against one team (Miami), and that's only if the league makes the decision of scheduling the Buffalo meeting in late November/December. I would think the collateral business opportunities provided by having a retractable roof or domed stadium would far outweigh the minimal number of home field advantage opportunities when Buffalo faces a southern team in frigid temperatures.
