So I've become a NASCAR fan.

Guess I'll be drummed out of DU now.

My buddy has two sports; college football (U. of Alabama) and NASCAR.
Got the huge screen TV, surround sound, etc.
I started just keeping him company while we watched the races.
Plus he has a well stocked bar and puts out some killer snacks (with a 'little' help from his lovely wife).

At first I was just hangin' with my friend, but I began to get interested in what was going on.
Of course the crashes are spectacular.
Morbid entertainment, I guess.
But it seems that rarely is anyone seriously injured.
I mean it looks like the whole car comes apart, but the driver climbs out of the more-or-less 'crash-proof' cockpit not much the worse for the experience.

Then I began to pay attention to the strategies involved.
The maneuvering.
Drafting, pushing, etc.
The speed and grace of pit stops.
Now I find it really quite interesting.
Go figure.

It's all pretty cool, isn't it? I prefer short track and road course races but super speedway races are exciting. I'd like to see fewer wrecks but racing in huge packs going 200 mph invites them. These racers are the best at what they do but they're very approachable when you get to meet them in person. I've been enjoying NASCAR races for many years.

Diffewrent tracks, different strategies. Cars are better on some tracks than others, as well as the drivers. As far as wrecks go, they have gotten really safe since the death of Dale Earnhardt. Not saying their won't be another fatal accident, but chances are much lower today. I also love to watch these guys pass them up at near 200 mph, with less than 1/4 of an inch between them and the car they are trying to pass. Makes for one of the best watched sports imo.
