BB gun or pellet gun?

I'm looking for a decent BB or pellet gun to plink cans with my 10 year old daughter.

Is one better than the other for distance or accuracy? Any models recommended? I don't mind spending money if I get a decent product, but I don't need anything on a competition level.

Thank you for any input you may have.

for my nephew.

He bought a 0.177 pellet rifle which could also fire BBs (like a ten pump). But, he never let my nephew shoot pellets, and kept the rifle locked away. So, pellets for adults, BBs for kids, and only when the adults say so, and are present.

my 2 cents.

After 30 yrs, by brother still has that 0.177. I think the only thing he ever shot was a rabid skunk in his backyard.

It's not a serious "competition" gun.... but it gives pretty good accuracy on 5 meter targets.

It's advertised as the "Official Shooting Education BB Gun" by Daisy. It's geared toward teaching kids the basics of shooting and gun safety.

It has a muzzle velocity of 240 feet per second which makes it about as safe as you can get. It'll still put out an eye but it's not going to do as much damage as a 1,000+ fps. pellet gun when an accident occurs.

It's about $140.
