Official: Burned Islamic religious material had 'extremist inscriptions'

By the CNN Wire Staff
updated 11:56 AM EST, Tue February 21, 2012

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Religious material including Qurans that was burned at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan was removed from the library of a detainee center "because of extremist inscriptions and an appearance that these documents were being used to facilitate extremist communications," a military official said Tuesday.

"Additionally, some of the documents were extremist in and of themselves, apparently originating from outside of Afghanistan," said the official.

The official said the material was burned, but authorities are attempting to determine how much.

Earlier, the commander of the International Security Assistance Force said the materials were gathered for disposal from the airfield's Parwan detention facility and inadvertently given to troops for burning.

There is a faction in that country that wants to be offended. They are begging for it every day and unfortunately we'll always have someone stumble into their trap because, well, as a whole people are kind of dumb that way.

It's about blasphemy, and the fact that their reaction to it is the stupidity you find in nutjobs. But when msongs said that you felt the need to come to their defense.

And BTW, that little dustup in NY was hardly domestic spying. I'd tell you to get over yourself, but that seems to be a phrase that only the Christians here can use with impunity.

I'll grant you, stupidly burning a Quran pales in comparison to dropping drones in a village. But blasphemy is the least of it Too bad you're so monaniacal on religious matters to realize it.

Sorry the NYPD doesn;t pass your muster for domestic spying. They'll do better next time.

yet they don't seem to agree with that assessment. It is the blasphemy they're rioting about.

But don't let that nutjobbery get in the way of your narrative...

Second day of protests spread over Afghan Koran burning

22 February 2012 Last updated at 10:39 ET

At least six people have been killed and dozens injured in Afghanistan after protests spread over the burning of copies of the Koran at a US airbase.

One person was killed in Kabul, one in the eastern city of Jalalabad and at least four in Parwan province.

US officials apologised on Tuesday after Korans were "inadvertently" put in an incinerator at Bagram airbase.

Officials at Bagram reportedly believed Taliban prisoners were using the books to pass messages to each other.
