Hate group begins ‘fasting’ tomorrow to defeat same-sex marriage at Supreme Court

Hate group begins ‘fasting’ tomorrow to defeat same-sex marriage at Supreme Court

The anti-gay Family Research Council will begin a 21-day fast tomorrow, in order to thwart an expected ruling from the Supreme Court on same-sex marriage.

The US Supreme Court will next month hear arguments pertaining to same-sex marriage bans from four states, in a case that is tipped to bring equality to all 50 states.

Ahead of the hearings on April 28, listed anti-gay group the Family Research Council appears to be out of tangible ways to protest the move, and is encouraging people to “pray and fast”.

The group’s ‘Prayer Targets’ state: “[President] Tony Perkins is asking praying believers everywhere to pray and fast from April 7th till April 28th that God will intervene to guide our Supreme Court to protect, not destroy, natural marriage as the legal standard for our nation.

Of course, just in case prayer doesn’t work, the group has also submitted a surreal legal brief to the Court.
The group’s brief warns of a slide towards incestuous and polygamous marriages if the court finds in favour of same-sex marriage.

It also warns: “Unlike the sexual activity of opposite-sex couples, the sexual activity of same-sex couples can never result in the procreation of children.

Sounds like last gasps to me.

Or a Tiger Stadium (Detroit) hot dog barker (before they tore the oldest stadium in the major leagues down).

Get yer Red Hots! Red Hots here!

In the Tiger Stadium stands you could get a Red Hot with mustard and/or fresh onions. Nothing else. Too many would ask for ketchup or relish and would be slapped down by the vendor. No self respecting hot dog had wimpy crap like that. At least not in Tiger Stadium. Not in Detroit back in the days the city had a semblance of self respect.

I ate many Red Hots in the stands of Briggs (later Tiger) Stadium. Only mustard and/or onions. I always chose lots of both.

But I diverge...

There certainly would be a religious war on that question.

Myself, these days I prefer Manhattan. But only because my digestive track is extremely dairy intolerant. No ice cream for me.
No hot chocolate either in the cold winters. I manage to squeeze a Jet's pizza once in a while though. (Although I pay for it later. ) It is still worth it.

If I had my choice I would choose Boston's version. But Tigers over the Red Sox. Always!

When a ball is tossed straight up, does it experience momentary equilibrium at top of its path?

This question has been asked many times all over the Internet and answers can be found on places such as yahoo and ask.com, but I'm not satisfied with those answers and I don't trust the validity of those places. This seems like a more appropriate place to ask. So, here's my train of thought and I would like to ask you if you think I'm right or wrong.

Even though most of the answers point to the fact that the ball does not achieve equilibrium because the force of gravity is constantly acting upon it, thus causing an acceleration, I still think there's a moment of equilibrium and here's why:

When the ball is traveling up, it's accelerating towards the ground and eventually reaches a point at which its speed reaches 0. At this moment, isn't the reason the speed is 0 is due to the fact that net force is 0? The force that made the ball travel in the upward direction was canceled out by the gravitational force. So, the sum of forces at that brief moment is equal to 0, otherwise the ball would be moving. I don't think gravity is the only force acting on the ball at that moment, since the throwing force was acting on it as well, until both canceled each other out for that brief moment.

This is physics 101. Any first year undergrad can solve this one.

But then there's those knuckleballs. Now you've got a real puzzler. I guess one will have to ask Phil Niekro, or Hoyt Wilhelm. Both were said to make unhittable pitches. (Joe Niekro, Phil's younger brother pitched for the Tigers for two seasons. Also a knuckleballer.)

There are some problems physics cannot solve. Or maybe weren't meant to solve. It keeps the adventure in the sport.

So all I have is my iPhone. DU mobile does not show icons.

But I know my good friend will not object since it is all in good fun. I love arguing about baseball, hot dogs, pizza (thin NYC pizza utterly sucks -- might as well eat cheese and crackers), etc.

Spring is here. The snow is gone, baseball has started, and I am having some fun.

Hope everybody is well.

I apologize pinto. I hope you don't take it personally but I grew up in Detroit. And I remember Dick Radatz pitching for the Sox in Tiger Stadium. He was a great reliefer. (He went to school at Michigan State, BTW.)

I wish I could catch some baseball. I'm going to the states in May and hope to catch a game or two. Going to a game is one of my favorite things ever.

We are trying to get out of here and travel the sea of cortez for a month before abandoning the mexican heat. Hopefully this will happen very very soon.

It's been since 1984.

The big one was 1968, a year after the big riots. (LBJ had to call out the National Guard.) I was home for the 1967 summer from Michigan State. I remember the smelling the smoke as the city burned. But when the Tigers won the World Series in 68 the entire city lit up with glee. Downtown was packed with people. And the celebrators gladly came back to help clean up the next day.

In the Tiger clubhouse after the seventh game, Don Wert said "These fucking guys are alright" on live TV. (Or something like that. I think it was Wert. Memory is fuzzy, so long ago. But I remember that happening.)

Ah! The Sea of Cortez! Maybe have some fresh sea food. Nothing better on a boat. Pet some whales for me.

So you have that going for you. Whatever you do, don't let them tear it down like they did in Detroit, and before that in Chicago (Comiskey Park).

The Tigers played at Michigan and Trumbull since 1912. When they tore down Comiskey (1910) in 1990 that left the Tigers' and Red Sox's stadiums as the two old ladies. Regretfully only Fenway Park remains, certainly the best baseball park on the planet. (Sorry Cubbies! Bricks cannot beat the green monster.)

But I just miss Al Kaline throwing out a guy on third foolish enough to tag and try for home on a right field fly. Especially with one of the Tigers' wonderful catchers at the plate. The umpire gives you the double pumper and you are out of there because Kaline would throw a strike from the right field wall. BTW, he could hit, too. Lots of memories.

My best.

21. FFS. Here is "How To Fast":
Tue Apr 7, 2015, 07:43 PM
Apr 2015

from the FRC site:

How to Fast - Please pray about precisely how you should conduct your fast (Read Dr. Bill Bright’s online pamphlet 7 Basic Steps to Successful Fasting and Prayer which outlines how safely to fast, various kinds of fasts and unique health considerations). Some will pray daily at what would normally be mealtimes, others will fast only one or two meals each days, some will abstain from solid food and drink water only for the entire 21 days, others will drink juices and liquids. If you are uncertain about your health, talk to your doctor. Spiritually, fasting humbles us and amplifies the focus and effectiveness of our prayers. Jesus said “whenever you fast,” not “if.” He thus expected us to fast periodically (Mt 6:16-18). After a few days of fasting many lose their hunger and can function in their regular activities for weeks. But prayer “without ceasing,” believing God’s promises to hear and answer our faith-filled prayers, and exercising extraordinary faith for God to work wonders, is the purpose of this fast.

I'm guessing most will "pray daily at what would normally be mealtimes" as their "fast".
