National Day of Reason

http://www.nationaldayofreason.org/about.php

A consortium of leaders from within the community of reason endorsed the idea of a National Day of Reason. This observance is held in parallel with the National Day of Prayer, on the first Thursday in May each year. The goal of this effort is to celebrate reason—a concept all Americans can support—and to raise public awareness about the persistent threat to religious liberty posed by government intrusion into the private sphere of worship.

5. That's cool. I would like to know how the non-theists here plan to acknowledge this day.

Is there something we could do in this group to recognize both events in a civil and affirming way?

6. I don't mind that there is a National Prayer Day

where it bothers me is when politicians (Republicans and Dems) try to make it an official government commemoration.
A group of people gathered to pray, fine. A government sponsored event, I'm not okay with.
It is where Rick Perry was so wrong to kick off his campaign at a big Christian stadium event.

To answer your question, maybe two threads. One where people say what they are praying for. And another where people give an idea they have come about with reason.
Neither thread should have antagonistic replies.
There could be other threads on the merits of either day where the back an forth would take place.

8. I think it would be better to have a DU-fied version of the National Day of Prayer

The Chairperson of the National Day of Prayer is Shirley Dobson, wife of right-wing fundagelical wackaloon James "Spongebob Squarepants is Gay!" Dobson of Focus on the Family. Dobson himself has also abused at least one of his dogs in the past for being "defiant" and thinks that one way to keep your son from turning out gay is by showing him your penis.

The more different DU's version is from the "official" one, the better, imo.
