The Vatican released Thursday a 184-page papal encyclical by Pope Francis condemning the human behaviors causing climate change and urging global action to combat environmental degradation, marking the first time the Catholic Church has aligned itself with scientists on climate issues. Here are some highlights of the popes landmark climate change encyclical:
*Establishes Catholic Churchs stance on issue 30 years too late
*Announces new Eucharist composting program to reduce production of holy waste
*Unveils Churchs effort to reduce energy use by merging Father, Son, Holy Spirit into one deity
*Lays out Vaticans plan to lead green initiatives by immediately recycling all records and documents pertaining to child abuse
*Reveals many of the worlds poor lack access to clean drinking blood of Christ

(2,884 posts).. you throw this oil soaked kitty litter in a bio-friendly compost recycle bin.
Can't let the Pope have the last word, can you?

(13,029 posts)When it comes to issues like same-sex marriage and birth control, the pope's fans and apologists try to minimize the effects of his bigotry by saying that most Catholics just ignore what he says anyway, and think and do what they want. But when it comes to something like this, all of a sudden he becomes they one guy that everyone listens to and follows.

(32,706 posts)it sure if fun to watch Ryan, Santorum and Jeb squirm. Even better than his view of global warming is view on lassez fair capitalism.

(49,533 posts)The pope is just as adamant about marriage equality, abortion, and contraception being wrong, yet liberals see nothing wrong with ignoring him on those things. They don't "squirm," so why would the right wing?

(32,706 posts)about money than social issues. They fear the death of radical capitalism more than all else. I don't think liberals give him a pass on social issues. We know that lay Catholics ignore most of that. They use birth control, go else where for abortions and marry outside the church. Only the poor can't. Economic justice will change all of that. Just like I have questions about Hillary and big money, she is way ahead on the 3 issues you mention. If she is our candidate I'll vote for her in a minute. While I don't approve of the Popes position on social issues, I'll give him credit for his latest views on the environment and economy.

(49,533 posts)If liberals (and as you're claiming, lay Catholics) can simply "ignore" proclamations about birth control, abortion, homosexuality, etc. (all of which are "mortal sins!" without worrying about it at all, then why should conservatives be bothered by what he says about capitalism or the environment?

(32,706 posts)Paul Ryan got a letter from the American Bishops saying his budget goes against the church teaching and we haven't seen much of him sense. Santorum is babbling while trying to call out the pope and so is Jeb.
Just my opinion.

(49,533 posts)He's just finished helping to wrangle enough conservative and Democratic votes to pass a Trade Promotion Authority bill out of the House of Representatives, a key legislative win for himself and President Obama. Now Ryan is shouldering his party's next big burden as he leads the effort to construct the Republican contingency plan if a core piece of the Affordable Care Act is gutted by the Supreme Court in the coming weeks.
Political prognosticators spent years wondering if Ryan would turn his 2012 vice presidential bid into his own campaign for the White House. But the Wisconsin Republican has made himself more politically relevant by staying just where he is.
...
But now that Ryan is not running for higher office, he is free to pursue controversial policies. He's able to wheel and deal and find middle ground because he is not beholden to anything but his own desire for productivity.
Don't let yourself be lulled into a false sense of security. Ryan doesn't give a rat's ass about what the pope says about the environment, just as liberal Catholics couldn't care less what he says about birth control or homosexuality. It's the same thing.

This is getting confusing.
