Circumcision

Since the Book says we were created in His image, I assume it's vice versa. Since He would never ask us to do anything He wouldn't do, who performed His circumcision?

I guess He must have done it Himself. Man, it must have taken all the omnipotence He could muster to keep a steady hand.

I've always wondered about circumcision. Doesn't it imply that He made a mistake when He created us, so now we have to fix it?

That was another thing I had no choice in.

Capital H: done as an experiment. Won't be repeated.

sue the bastards

Parents can make certain choices for their children, that's life, and this is the stupidest argument I have heard, using a so-called deity as an example to support your argument, because in that same book, they said it was required

All this post is, is flame bait

as a form of sacrifice. That particular god is all into having people make sacrifices to him. Circumcision reduces sexual pleasure for both partners (I understand everyone doesn't agree with that statement) while still permitting reproduction - that qualifies as a sacrifice in my opinion. He required it to be done to babies because they can't refuse. If he told them to have it done when they were old enough to understand what was going on, they might just tell him to go fuck himself.

To be fair, it's not explicitly called a sacrifice, either. From Genesis chapter 17:

10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

Pork ban was for health, as was the shell fish ban. Mixed fibers would cause one fiber to cut through the others... 'They' saw a hygiene proble and fixed it... They just added it to religion

Keep in mind the time, arid land, might bath once a month

their God. As a practical matter some scholars believe it served the additional purpose of unquestionably identifying the circumcised man as a Jew. This had the effect of making it impossible for non-Jews who had converted to Judaism in order to marry a Jewish woman from denying it at some later time.

I've always found that a reasonable explanation. Body-altering rights of passage are not uncommon, and each exists in part to demonstrate one's devotion to one's tribe, or to differentiate the tribe from its neighbors.

This need to differentiate also seems a reasonable explanation for a litany of Biblical laws, particularly the prohibition on tattoos.

Premising a post with "Since the Book says we were created in His image", followed by sophomoric remarks about male circumcision, omits more than half the human population.

Man was created in God's image. Women were formed from Adam's rib. All bullshit of course, but that's what your Bible says. It's not my words that are at issue. If you have a problem with your church's misogyny, take it up with the Pope.

called Blood in the Face, which was about white supremacists (the title refers to the chosen people being able to show blood in their faces, ie blushing) it's very interesting, there is none of what you'd expect from Moore's famous works, just straight up documentary, interviews, it's all very interesting, pretty much all religion based as well.

One guy he interviewed (and it's been a while so I forget the details, but some parts you don't forget) was in jail for something, and he converted there and, well he performed auto-circumcision. no one doubted his commitment, and even his conservative christian, neo-nazi pals got queasy when he shared his story.

The whole blushing thing....I almost peed on the couch I was laughing so hard! I actually had to stop the video, because I couldn't stop laughing. I am 46, have dealt with all kinds of bigots, and have never heard anything like that before. It was eye-opening for sure!

(For those interested, if you have the PBS app through Xbox, you can watch this program; it is still listed for viewing.)

ironically enough they use it as a recruitment tool, easy way to get all the info out to like minded folks. Glad it's on a better platform now! Also good to read the Turner diaries, cause the whole Oklahoma city bombing is written out in it, like step by step. Their step after that is the Pentagon, but we're getting off topic and would need to take it to another forum to continue that train of thought...

This belongs here because Christianity and white supremacy go hand in hand.
