Holy Rolling Stones

After the Rolling Stones American tour this summer, I got to listening to the featured album (re-release of Sticky Fingers) and albums made around the same time. Some interesting Gospel influence, including this cover of an "in your face" Gospel/Spiritual, "You Gotta Move":

They only played this a few times this tour -- I would have loved to hear it, but probably not a big crowd pleaser. This song was originally recorded during a short session at the famous studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama (some scenes from that in the video). Maybe it sort of balanced out the rather raunchy "Brown Sugar" recorded at the same time.

At the opening semi-private show where they played the entire album. Mick didn't think most crowds would like it (I think he is right).

The other album I've been listening too lately is Exile on Main Street which is a lot like Sticky Fingers. You hear a lot of Gospel (and Country/Western) influence, and of course the beautiful song about the death spiral of band-mate Brian Jones is full-on Gospel
