Massachusetts, New Hampshire are least religious states in U.S., study says

Massachusetts and New Hampshire residents are the least devout in the U.S., according to a new study by Pew Research Center.

Only 33 percent of adults in the Bay State are "highly religious," Pew found, and the same portion of people said religion is very important in their lives. Twenty-three percent said they attend worship services at least once a week, 37 percent say they pray daily and 40 percent say they believe in God with "absolute certainty."

Compare that to Alabama and Mississippi, which tied for first; 77 percent of people in those states are highly religious, Pew said. And in Mississippi, 82 percent say they believe in God with absolute certainty.
