You cannot serve both God and the N.R.A.

April 17th, 2016
by David Cook

... with a straight face, Nashville legislators passed a bill to make the Bible into Tennessee's official state book ...

The Bible is an anthem for all that Nashville power doesn't represent ...

The Bible locates power at the base or root of things, among the least of these, not among political campaigns or war chests ...

... You cannot serve both God and the N.R.A. ...

Peter cut off an ear but didn't take a life. In the next line Jesus said....

11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

— John 18:10–11

Now look up the other quotes of Jesus on defending your property with violence and other things he said about "the sword".

Peter was given the keys to heaven by Jesus, but he doesn't stand guard with a sword or gun.

I'm not religious but I do read scriptures, just to argue with idiots.

5. Right, Jesus wanted to go with the men and told Peter to put away his weapon, not to discard it.

Jesus knew that Peter carried and at any time could have told him that was wrong if Jesus thought it was, and was a personal insult necessary?

8. That was another insult, there is no cherry picking of scripture, at least not by me.

Not only did Peter carry but I believe a second disciple also packed, perhaps more, carrying a knife was common back then, one carried their own eating utensil and also camp work, repairs or preparing food and butchering would call for a knife, and men that carry knives for such chores, often have their own idea of what they consider the most versatile, and frequently that means useful in self defense as well.

9. He was obviously compensating for something. Probably because his parents named him "Peter"
