Church Leaders Condemn Vice President Joe Biden for Officiating Gay Wedding

Church Leaders Condemn Vice President Joe Biden, a Practicing Catholic, for Officiating Gay Wedding

Biden wasn’t acting as a representative of the Catholic Church, though. He received public permission to perform the ceremony. The Washington Post reported that “he got a temporary license for the D.C. government to seal the deal.”

In other words, Biden acted just as many other Catholics would in the same situation. 60% of American Catholics support marriage equality, despite what Pope Francis says. Biden may be a devout man, but he believes the Church is wrong about homosexuality. That makes him no different, really, from the more than 50% of Catholics who believe abortion should be legal in most cases, even though the Church believes it’s wrong in all cases.

The Church shouldn’t be lashing out against Biden. They should be thanking him for putting such a positive face on Catholicism. If young people are going to remain in the Church, it’s almost certainly because of people like Biden, not the bigots who actually run the organization.

again if the church wants to "play" then they should pay, by losing their tax free status.

Here's a less melodramatic report:

Top Catholic bishops criticize Biden for officiating at gay marriage

By David Gibson | 17 hours ago

(RNS) When Vice President Joe Biden last week tweeted a photo of himself proudly officiating at the same-sex civil wedding of two White House staffers, it quickly became fodder for news stories and commentary both pro and con — the latter by religious conservatives who thought Biden was betraying his Catholic faith and deserved a rebuke.

The Catholic hierarchy was notably quiet, however, until Friday (Aug. 5) when three leaders of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops posted a statement clearly directed at Biden and criticizing him for presenting “a counter witness, instead of a faithful one founded in the truth.”

“When a prominent Catholic politician publicly and voluntarily officiates at a ceremony to solemnize the relationship of two people of the same-sex, confusion arises regarding Catholic teaching on marriage and the corresponding moral obligations of Catholics,” wrote Louisville Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, who was joined by Buffalo Bishop Richard Malone, and Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski.

Malone is chair of the bishop’s Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth and Wenski is chair of the bishop’s Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development.

they still come off as celebite wankers who are homophobic, but turn a blind eye to child rape.
Moral confusion arises when you enable pedeophiles.

Nobody "condemned" anyone, let alone issued an anathema.

Now, I must have missed any reference to the rest of your post in the original article.

Kindly point out where it mentioned celibacy, wanking, child rape or pedophilia. Or is that simply your knee jerk reaction?

They have absolutely no right to dictate morality to anyone else, given the atrocious conduct of their hierarchy with the endless rape scandals and coverup.

What's the 'splain again? Oh yeah, the church opposes out-of-wedlock sex for everyone so can't you see that's not homophobic at all? (Never mind the church provides no way for a homosexual person to have IN-wedlock sex, that's beside the point!!!11!ones!)
