as Ambassador (for Adultery)
The pontiff rejected a French ambassador just because he was gay; surely, he should reject Trump's pick for her sins.
When President Donald Trump visited Rome in May, Twitter and Facebook lit up. Many delighted in headlines and commentary that suggested that when Trump visited the Vatican, the Pope schooled him the way a disappointed headmaster deals with a badly behaved remedial student. Indeed, much in Trumps agenda (to say nothing of his character) is at odds with Pope Franciss touchstone priorities: lifting up the poor and hungry, tackling climate change and serving as responsible custodians of a fragile planet, showing compassion for refugees and respect for their human dignity. These purposes have inspired American Catholics and non-Catholics alike making the Pope far more popular than Trump himself in the United States.

(52 posts)OP didn't say that she was gay, but did, indeed, plainly state why she should be rejected.
My apologies to all who choose to read what's written; on first cup of coffee and in hissy mood.

(7,323 posts)An institution that accepts pedophilia couldn't care less about Gingrich's behavior. She's not gay. That's what's important to the RCC.
Have another cup.

(9,116 posts)His point is that the Vatican will reject you for being gay, but will not necessarily reject you for being an insufferable moral monster. Such are the priorities of the Holy See.

(24,774 posts)Wouldn't that put her in a state of adultery according to Catholic teachings?

(14,861 posts)is that the Church considers his first two marriages invalid, because they happened before he converted. So he wasn't really married to his first two wives, therefore Callista never really committed adultery with him and also is not doing so now. I'm sure she's long since been absolved of the years of fornication that went on while they thought he was married to his second wife. It's all very convenient.

just to identify doctrine (and I'm not catholic anymore)
but being gay is continuing to be gay. As reprehensible as Callista is (and she's a terrible person from what I can tell), she could have sought forgiveness for her sin (is sorry and will 'sin no more'). From that standpoint, rejecting her would be saying that she could not be forgiven - despite her contrition - and that doesn't seem right.
A better president would not have appointed her. But we do not have a better president
ETA: Gingrich's marriage was annulled, wasn't it?? (if it wasn't, then she'd still be living in sin)

(14,861 posts)I think that means he was never married to his first two wives at all, as far as the Church is concerned.
No Vested Interest
(5,167 posts)his first marriage would have been valid.
First wife died; therefore he was no longer married and was free to remarry.
Second marriage was not valid, for reasons I don't recall - I think it had to with second wife's marriage status.
Marriage not valid; therefore there never was a marriage; annulment= no marriage.
Marriage to Callista, whom I believe had never been married.
Assumption is made that both Newt and Callista confessed past sins and were contrite and sins were forgiven, as proscribed by Christ's words, "Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; whose sins you shall retain, they are retained." John 20:23.
Therefore, Pope Francis will accept the ambassadorial credentials of Callista Gingrich.

(14,861 posts)because his first wife finally died off. How fortunate for them.

(4,965 posts)That's why he rejected the French ambassador. Don't think this is about morality as a whole. As others above have indicated, he has protected child rapists, why should some adultery bother him?

(49,533 posts)Child rapists are protected and sheltered.
Adulterers are put into respected ambassadorships.
But sorry, if you're gay and in a committed, loving relationship, the church cannot tolerate you.
