Lets give them (sic) Alabama evangelicals a break By Mark Silk

From the article:

Last week was not a happy one for evangelicals in Alabama.
It was bad enough that the Washington Post exposed their standard-bearer, GOP senatorial candidate Roy Moore, as someone who used to prey on teenaged girls. Moore’s Alabaman defenders made it worse by turning their piece of God’s country into a national laughingstock............

the end of September, Opinion Savvy showed evangelicals backing Moore over Jones by 40 points, 68 percent to to 28 percent. In its latest poll, taken in the wake of the Post story, the margin has been cut nearly in half, with 58 percent supporting Moore and 37 percent supporting Jones.

It actually looks like there are some serious questions being asked by some well-reasoned people.............

That is what we need - some people willing to begin a discussion - not a feud!

The answer so far seems no. According to the poll, some evangelicals refused to cross this line, but so far most are okay with it. I hope the author is right and more will turn away. But frankly, their support of Trump sets a low bar. Prior to 2016, I thought evangelicals would never support someone like Trump. Instead, they are his most loyal supporters. Even if they don't vote for Moore, their moral image is greatly tarnished.

I'll NEVER understand how anyone with ANY religious convictions or beliefs could even consider supporting IQ45.

They couldn't draw up a list of un-Christian-like flaws that would be any worse than what IQ45 represents.

Really, W-T-F???????????

Roy Moore was plenty horrible before Evangelicals learned he'd been sticking his dick in teens. You might think not voting for an ephebophile is something to be praised, but where I come from the human decency bar is set quite a bit higher.

...with that being the thrust of the author's plea to give Evangelicals "a break".

I'm not sure why I need to clarify my point here. It is pretty straightforward. Evangelicals were more than happy to support Moore when he was using public money to forcibly inject his religion into Alabama's legal system, and when he was defying federal law to deny gay couples the right to marry. Moore is an inhumane, callous, vituperative monster, and would still be an inhumane, callous, vituperative monster if these allegations had never been made. Evangelicals don't deserve a break because not-even-half of them managed to navigate the relatively simple moral quandary of whether one should support a candidate accused by five women of pursuing sexual relations with minors, you know, a Democrat. That should be par for the course for any voter of any party or political persuasion.

This isn't something you get kudos for.

to ignore his pederasty because Moore is an advocate for theocracy.

Quite frankly I don’t give a damn about reasoning with these people. They are as dangerous as their Nazi brethren.

11. According to the article...

a large majority of Christian evangelicals supported Moore before the allegations came to light.

After the news, a large majority of Christian evangelicals continues to support him.

Truly breathtaking news, guillaumeb. Amazing!

Why do you think they continue to support him? Is it because of their patriotism? I think his non-evangelical support is below 50% - are non-evangelicals less patriotic? Or is there another factor that keeps evangelicals in line? Hmm... I wonder what it could be...
