I used to post here, but stopped for a very specific reason. I returned when that reason was no longer present. Now, I'm considering bailing again, and for the very same reason. Should I? Or should I stay? I can go either way.
I'm not in a very good mood today, for an obvious reason. My Senator is resigning, and that pisses me off. So, my patience with games is at the low edge of tolerance.
Talk me down, or tell me to leave. I don't care.
ETA: To clarify, I'm talking about this group, not DU as a whole. Just the Religion Group.

(7,395 posts)Quality of humans at this place determines the fate of the species. You leave, quality dips, some other planet in a far away galaxy gets to be the survivor but not us.
You think I'm joking. But I am not.
You just helped me today... hopefully Mineral Man too.

(10,053 posts)When I first came to DU, it was YOUR posts/articles that I found and read first - funny, inspiring & informative. I still enjoy your posts to this day - please stay.

(7,888 posts)Oh course, you are going to get the musical connection from me. I stay where I wish, whenever I wish. I am retired, and fighting some cyber crooks, so, also, not in a good mood.

(4,079 posts)There are few here (I can count them on one hand) whose posts I will read when I see who the author is, without having to look at the subject. But you are one of them.
I, too, am disheartened today, but it helps to have others around who "get it".
Please stay.

(22,130 posts)other posters are big reason I finally joined DU this year, even though I have been reading for years and years. I wanted to support the DU community, for I learn far more about various issues here than going to dozens of websites combined on the internet. Any decision you make, of course we'll support you in full. Best Wishes.

(16,104 posts)I appreciate the respectful free-for-all here in this group! Rare in DU!
If someone in particular annoys you, hit that IGNORE button and make THEM disappear!
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)Hello?!? Is there anyone out there?
Yes, the tone is generally respectful.
RandomAccess
(5,210 posts)that you were asking about this group not DU as a whole.
I haven't.
I don't come here and am not religious myself, but I've seen a couple of your posts here reach the Greatest page. I've wondered (without, I'll admit, having read the posts, just the somewhat provocative, anti-religion titles) -- if you're not religious, why are you pestering people who are? If I did come here, I'd consider your very presence an affront. Maybe the people here are more forgiving than I.
Mariana
(14,858 posts)There are several "safe haven" groups for religious people in which awkward questions and criticism of religious beliefs are not permitted. This is not one of them. MineralMan's posts absolutely belong in this group. Your post, on the other hand, is way out of line.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)reject the criticism, a criticism which some here actually agree with, while you insist that the poster is out of line. An interesting standard is being exhibited.
Mariana
(14,858 posts)MineralMan's posts conform perfectly with the stated purpose of this group: Discuss religious and theological issues. All relevant topics are permitted. Believers, non-believers, and everyone in-between are welcome. I will add that MineralMan has never posted anything as rude and hateful as what RandomAccess did. His very presence is an affront to no one.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)By atheists. So rudeness is not a new addition to this group.
Again, an interesting and selective standard,
Mariana
(14,858 posts)You've been criticized, teased, baited and ridiculed, but no one here hates you. No one in this group has ever said anything personally hateful to you. Certainly no one has made even the slightest suggestion that you your very existence here is offensive. Just stop pretending those things are the same. They are not.

If someone takes an affront to an atheist in Religion, that's too fucking bad. They can go to Interfaith or some other protected place and not have to deal with us. We are welcome here according to the rules. That you don't want to stick up for that indicates what you would like to see here. And that is out of line. By definition.

(1,896 posts)If there's one poster who is just too much hassle to deal with and offers nothing of value in return, just ignore a person rather than a group.
The downside is that threads of 62 posts can have 4 visible responses because the other posts can feature one guy being used as a masochistic pinata, but your blood pressure will thank you. And how useful is it to see that play out for the 5,817th time, anyway?
