This poster dates to the late fifties or early sixties.

The methods now are much more sophisticated, and bow-tie boy is now being told just how evil his school-mates are if they don't sign.

Did he grow up to be Roy Moore?

I got into trouble in Sunday School (again) for asking about that. If Jesus really took our punishment for sin, wouldn't he be in hell for eternity? That's what will happen to us if we aren't saved, right?

Why is there a drawing of a smiling severed head wearing a bow tie in that ad? That's creepy as hell, and far more frightening than anything in the copy.

Child abuse.

I remember as a child my father would take me to fire and brimstone church tent revivals. Scared the shit out out of me. I knew even then I wanted no part of this absurdity.
