I have a hobby which requires the reading and translation of simple French hand written historical documents. Not too hard.

Your written English is excellent, like it is your primary and first language.

French at home and both languages at school. We moved to the US when I was in secondary school so my last 2 years and university level was mainly in English.

From what era are the documents?

exposure to both languages. Like folks living in Montreal, they flip back and forth from French to English, both impeccably spoken, it makes my head spin. I think the folks in Quebec City still have an accent when they speak English.

The documents I am working on are from about the years 1500 to about 1920.
Hand written by French priests.

Je suis moitié irlandais, moitié français. Faisant de l'arbre généalogique pour les grands-parents français, j'ai des documents datant de 400 ans. Les registres des prêtres français sont impeccables et ont été mandatés par le roi. I also help others with their documents.
