Bishop Michael Curry walks a fine line in the political fray

From the article:

The Most Rev. Curry’s charismatic, love-centered homily during the service sparked a media blitz that rocketed him to stardom and landed him interviews at virtually every major American news network.
At a time when both political and spiritual matters are often marked by division, the praise for his sermon — which focused on Jesus’ message of love — was a rare moment of unity....

“We are not (sic) partisan group. We are not a left-wing group. We are not a right-wing group. We are a Jesus movement,” he declared to raucous applause.

The event, headed by a bevy of liberal-leaning Christians, was organized to promote a “Reclaiming Jesus” proclamation in which he and various signers declared, among other things, that President Trump’s campaign slogan “America First” was “a theological heresy.”

What's wrong with just declaring it bad for everyone except billionaires? Calling political ideas "heresy" is what right-wing theocrats do, and it has led to the polarization we now see.

...such as when he lifts up his two models for public theology: famed civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. and evangelist Billy Graham.

Yikes. Do you think Billy Graham is a "model for public theology," gil? The man was an anti-Semite, a homophobe who believed in "gay cure therapy," and he coined what was known at the time as the "Billy Graham" rule (now made famous by Mike Pence) that requires a married man to avoid being alone (even in a professional setting) with a woman other than his wife. That nonsense excuse for misogyny is ridiculous.

And heresy is a theological term.

Do you agree with 100% of everything in every article that you post?
