Noah's complicity

I admit it, I'm a coward. How far would I go to stand up for what is right? I've taken part in marches, demonstrations, and vigils, but those events are not life threatening.

Would I have the courage to stand up to God if he asked me to go along with his plan to commit a planet-wide massacre? Would I stand with my fellow humans, or would I sell them out?

And what is up with God asking people to commit atrocities? I may be a coward, but I would tell God to "Fuck Off!" if he told me to kill my son. And what kind of monster is Abraham that he would have done it?

It's all allegory/metaphor, just like all the inconvenient and unpleasant parts of the Bible. Gotta gloss over the bad publicity.

I know none of it is real. Just myths to teach us morality. But what kind of morality is this?

People who believe in the god of the Bible are moral or at least like to think they are. And, their God has to be moral. They see something immoral that their God does, they just discount it to fit their narrative. I personally don't see he appeal of that religion.

God does tell anti-abortionists to kill abortion doctors. They all know God supports that.

The apologist will invariably respond thusly:

It's just a story, just like all the other parts of the Bible I find personally distasteful. It was written by fallible men, just like all the other parts of the Bible I find personally distasteful. You shouldn't take it literally, like all the other parts of the Bible I find personally distasteful. Instead, you should read the parts of the Bible I like. Those were inspired by God. And are meant to be taken literally.

You might then feel compelled to ask the apologist how it is they determine which parts are bullshit and which parts are meant to be taken literally. They will invariably respond thusly:

ERMAGERD ATHE1STBADZ DAWSKINS 11TH COMMANDMENT BIGOT TRUMPY MCTRUMPFACE BUT WHATTABAOUT SAM HARRIS THAT'S JUST, LIKE, YOUR OPINION MAN PATRIOTISM NATIONALISM Y U NO JUST PRETEND TO BELIEB INTOLERANT YOU CAN'T PROVE I'M WRONG!

The entire flood story is a campfire tale, told by an old shaman type to nomadic people wandering in the desert. The moral of the story is, "Do what God tells you (through me) or bad stuff will happen.

That this story is still being told and heard is evidence of our failure to learn. Many of us are apparently still ignorant nomads who depend on others to tell us what to do, under the threat of dire consequences.

Abe said, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God said, "No" Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want, Abe, but
The next time you see me comin', you better run"
Well, Abe said, "Where d'you want this killin' done?"
