Schneiderman reports religious rights settlement

Updated July 7, 2012, 11:55 a.m. ET
Associated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says his office has reached a settlement with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. and the Jacobi Medical Center intended to protect all employees' rights to practice their religions.

The settlement requires all hospitals and medical facilities within the HHC network, including Jacobi, to implement a uniform policy on the review and granting of religious accommodation requests, conduct regular training on that policy and the law, and develop an internal complaint system.

Jacobi will also regularly report on its implementation of the procedures.

The attorney general's office says the corporation and Jacobi agreed to make across-the-board changes after it began a formal investigation.

1. I am surprised only because I thought the Joint Commission already covered this.

Unfortunately, I can't open the page, so maybe that is addressed in the article.

I have no other options and they have throttled us to the point where we can't even open email. It is interfering with my husband's ability to conduct business in a profound way.

We are going to move on Monday in the hopes of improving it to some degree, but I'm not optimistic.

If they sue you, it will be in small claims and then you can counterclaim.

Good luck with that.
