I admit the bishop's grounds for this action escape my theological acumen, I assume something like witchcraft or Satanism at the very least. Certainly nothing like being a little liberal.

(113,573 posts)and it turns out that the bishop is on the board of the former school of the americas, which one of the nuns pickets regularly.
why any sane, thinking, intelligent woman is still a member of this woman-hating, patriarchal, abusing organization is beyond me.

(13,029 posts)Change from within thingie. And we all saw how that busload of nuns had the pope quaking in his little red slippers.

Priest, heal thyself spiritually before you start criticising anyone else.

(146,218 posts)Oh, I see it means they preach tolerance.
I think this is another terrible misstep for the bishops, but we shall see.

(11,573 posts)for things like this. Right here on this board, we've seen a number of people switch from the (Roman) Catholic Church to one of the Anglican/Episcopal branches--same basic format to worship, same sacraments. But the US branch has a female Presiding Bishop, other female bishops and priests, and is moving steadily toward equal marriage.
I think the RCC bishops will come to regret this. Badly.

(146,218 posts)A number of them doing it at this time would make a big splash, wouldn't it.
But are there "orders" within the episcopal church? Where would they get their funding? To whom would they report?
okasha
(11,573 posts)There are Episcopalian Benedictines, Franciscans, Poor Clares, and others, such as the Order of St. Julian of Norwich, that have no RCC counterpart. Some have houses in the US and in Britain. Switch-overs would "report" to their new diocesan bishops, and would obtain funding in part through their dioceses, in part from donations, in part from employment of the sisters.

(146,218 posts)My exposure to the Episcopal Church has been very limited. Other than attending some services and events, I know very little.
I always saw them as "Catholic light", I guess more in line with the Church of England, which I also never paid much attention to.
Thanks for the info, okasha.

(11,573 posts)is part of the Anglican Communion, but hasn't been actually ruled from Canterbury since that little family quarrel back in 1776. It's something of an Episcopal joke that the church comes in three flavors: Low (Baptists who want to drink and dance with divine approval); High (bells and smells and the occasional Latin Mass); and Broad (both the above and everybody else welcome.)
