Popes have no faith in gay marriage

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/world/popes-say-no-to-gay-marriage/story-e6frfkui-1226675064577

THE Vatican has issued an unprecedented religious text co-written by Pope Francis and his predecessor Benedict XVI in which the two popes said faith should serve the "common good" but restated their opposition to gay marriage.

...

The 82-page text stresses that there is no contradiction between the Catholic faith and the modern world and calls for more dialogue with scientists, other religions and non-believers.

It also restates the Catholic Church's position on marriage saying it should be a "stable union of man and woman."

"This union is born of their love, as a sign and presence of God's own love, and of the acknowledgment and acceptance of the goodness of sexual differentiation," reads the text.

"There is no contradiction between the Catholic faith and the modern world"... except for where the modern world embraces tolerance, equality, and/or secularism, of course.

The new pope hates gays and women with a much friendlier smile on his face.

There are two paragraphs (out of 60) discussing the Catholic view of sacramental marriage. There are zero sentences on secular civil marriage.

You really should read the whole thing.

this encyclical takes no position on that?

8. It doesn't prevent same sex civil marriage at all.

If a gay Catholic wants to marry another, they can civilly and continue to go to Mass. But they can neither take Communion or marry in the Church. You already knew that.

Read it. It's about religious teachings not civil rights.

Do you want to prohibit a bris as well?

This does not impact civil rights at all. A religious practice is neither a civil right nor a civil obligation.

12. And they will have to confess their sin at each confess

and since that is the case, they are showing absolutely no desire to change their sinful ways and, therefore, their sins aren't forgiven so when they die the end up in hell.

But, YIPEE, the church doesn't say anything about civil same sex marriages. Except they us a lot of their political power to stop them from becoming law.

Other than that, stay classy, RCC.

16. I'm concerned about the stance of the church.

People that are gay and are Catholic (which, why?, but that's another discussion) DO NOT have any options to actually be who they are and still, functionally, remain Catholic. Anytime anyone brings that up in there, you go on this obfuscation that the church doesn't take a stance on civil union (which is bullshit, by the way, given their funding of attempts to stop laws from passing). The stance of the RCC actually does affect those that are gay and RCC.

No, I could not give a shit about who the RCC says in going to hell. I'm clearly going to be there for my apostasy. Good news is that there isn't really a there for them to send me.

without laughing myself silly. Just an endless string of unequivocal declarations, unsupported by any fact, argument, logic or connection with reality.

I'm sure you relished all 60 paragraphs with a deep, warm fuzziness, though.

just facts and logical arguments. Yeah, I know...not the Catholic Church's thing, since they're just right because they say so, but they should expect the laughter that attitude provokes among people who think and need to be convinced of things.

If you're referring to Rupert's rag that trotsky posted, its their headline entirely. That is not what the encyclical is about.

Still unsure why they had to include it, there is no reason for them too do so. Plus the whole two popes together thing is hilarious.
